Why is the Dynamic Plantar Aesthesiometer the suggested device for measuring tactile allodynia in a robust, quick and repeatable manner?

While both the manual Von Frey filaments and the Electronic Von Frey rely on the operator to apply the force, the Dynamic Plantar uses a silent electromagnetic motor which allows to set the desired force (1-100g) and the desired force ramp time and will then deliver at a constant rate without perturbations due to the difficulty to apply the force at a consistent speed when using hand-held devices.

This has an enormous impact on data variability and hence on the final sensitivity of the instrument and ability to discriminate between treatments.
