As stated above, it all depends if we are dealing with inflammatory, surgical, neuropathic allodynia.
In general a good rule of thumb is to apply a force and a rate such that the baseline response is about 5-10 seconds. In this way the allodynic response will be short and the short duration of this test is important to maximize its accuracy.
