In addition to what described in the general section of these FAQ such as adequate handling and habituation, for pain tests also the order of the tests is important if a battery is used, giving priority to more reflexive tests (e.g. tail-flick, analgesy-meter, plantar test, dynamic plantar test), followed by those that involve higher centres of the brain (e.g. hot cold plate, thermal preference, TGR).
Also when using tests like Von Frey, Electronic Von Frey or Dynamic Plantar Aesthesiometer, consistency in the plantar area stimulated is important as sensitivities change largely over the plantar surface (see image below).
