Background

  • Calibrates infrared (I.R.) sources, such as the Ugo Basile Tail Flick and Plantar Test.
  • Knowing the I.R. energy (1mW for the duration of 1s corresponds to 1mJ) in absolute terms, is a useful datum to compare with any equal or different method/instrument described in the literature.

Product features

  • The Radiometer is useful for customers using Tail-Flick and Plantar Test equipment. Over the course of one-two years, there can be a 2-3 % reduction in I.R. intensity due to such factors as dust on the optics, darkening of the I.R. bulb or accidental knocks, and the equipment will need calibration. Calibration is also required if the bulb is replaced or the electronics serviced.
  • The Radiometer enables the experimenter to check and adjust, if necessary, the I.R. emission.
  • Ensures delivery of the same power flux (expressed in mW per square cm) and therefore a nociceptive stimulus of the same intensity.
  • Each system is supplied with I.R. Probe, Digital Meter and adaptors for Tail Flick and Plantar Test in a sturdy plastic storage case with foam lining to keep all parts secure.

The design of a simple and reliable I.R. Radiometer has been made possible by the availability of miniature flat “temperature gradient sensors”, whose out-put signal is proportional to the temperature difference between their top and bottom surface.
