Activity Wheels Activity Wheels

Activity Wheels, or Running wheels, are designed to provide an easy convenient method for measuring laboratory mice or rats motor activity over long periods of time. Especially useful for research on circadian rhythms or motor function, when connected to a data acquisition system.

The running-wheel is made of stainless steel, provided with low friction Teflon bushing, for quite smooth action. The wheel is housed in a standard clear polycarbonate cage and a stainless steel wire lid with exclusive locks fasten securely to the cage body.

The lid incorporates a lodging for a water bottle up to 500ml (not included) and a U-shaped food hopper pellets. A solid stainless steel lid covers the opening at the edge of the activity wheel.

The Mouse cage is dimensioned 37(h)x26(w)x358d) cm and incorporates a 25cm diameter running-wheel. The mouse runs on 2mm bars, placed 7mm apart. The Rat Cage is similar to the mouse model; the running wheel has 35 cm diameter. The 2 mm bars are placed 8.8 mm apart. Dimensions of the Rat Cage are 48(h)x32(w)x47(d) cm.

An individual counter records Each cage is complete with magnetic switch and an individual revolution counter, which counts whole revolutions of the activity wheel and operates on an extended-life battery. Cages without counter, models 1800-S and 1850-S, are also available, for data collection via PC.

Data can be collected by connecting to the new 52600 Multifunction Interface NG (optional) to measure activity across time, via ANYmaze software (full license or 60000-IO). Up to 12 wheels can be connected to 1 Multifunction Printer and up to 6 Multifunction Printers can be connected to the same PC.
